CULTURE IN CONFLICT

This summer Naomi and I will celebrate our Golden Anniversary. So, this Valentine’s Day was special for us. I’m forever grateful that God brought us together. She has been and is the ideal helpmeet for me. She always lifts me and inspires me. I’m grateful we could once again share this Valentine’s Day together.

She’s a terrific mother, a loyal and loving wife, a great interior decorator and homemaker, and an excellent cook. She was a loyal Jesus follower when I first met her in 1970 in college. She remains His loyal disciple today. “A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband” (Proverbs 12:14).

The Super Bowl lived up to its name. Congratulations to the Los Angeles Rams. But there are trappings surrounding the game itself that grieve the heart of God. How I pray for our young people today. When the confusion and contradictions of adults are on such blatant display, only God can enable our kids to navigate their way through the madness we’ve created.

Jeremiah describes our condition. “Are they ashamed of their detestable conduct? No, they have no shame at all, they do not even know how to blush” (Jeremiah 8:12, NLT). In Your mercy, God, enable us once again to experience conviction of sin. Then, in Your great mercy, grant us the gift of repentance.
