For the follower of Jesus the future is always bright. The Tower of London is the safe treasury for the priceless Crown Jewels of England. The dazzling brilliance of these regal crowns is breathtaking. The Queen’s coronation crown alone contains 2783 diamonds, 277 pearls, 18 sapphires, 11 emeralds, and five rubies.
Yet as awe-inspiring as these regal crowns are, they cannot be favorably compared to the immeasurable beauty and worth of heaven’s treasures. These treasures are secured for us through the gospel when, as a bride commits her future to her husband, we commit our future to Jesus in faith, love, and obedience. “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).
This beautiful, powerful gospel enables us who believe to literally get the last laugh. We are empowered to rejoice in difficulties and stare down death itself. All because of Jesus. As Calvin Miller wrote, “We will one day stand on our graves and laugh a free man’s laughter.”
