Paul said the gospel itself is the very power of God. He succinctly summarizes the gospel’s awesome might in Colossians 1:12-13: “Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love (italics added).” The gospel qualifies us as God’s people and therefore as rightful recipients of the benefits of God’s kingdom. “His divine power has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him.” (2 Pet. 1:3-4). The gospel frees us from sin’s vice and shifts us out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. As Paul Washer states, “The immeasurable power of God manifests itself in the gospel. Nothing less than the gospel can bring a man to repentance and faith. Nothing less than the gospel can transform a man from sinner to saint. Nothing less than the gospel can bring many sons home to glory!”
But gives us neither feet nor hands.
Far better news the gospel brings –
It bids us fly and gives us wings!
