Why We're Convening

This will be a landmark week as we gather around 50 delegates from 28 nations at Global Advance’s International Summit. This morning Jonathan Shibley, president of Global Advance, reminded the Global Advance staff of the reasons we’re gathering this week from around the world.

We will celebrate. Often throughout history God instructed His people to have feasts of remembrance. Our time together this week will culminate in a great 25th Anniversary Dinner with hundreds of friends and partners. At Global Advance we have much to celebrate and much for which to be thankful. Global Advance is debt-free and is current on all bills. God has blessed us to bring on-site training, resources, and encouragement to over 700,000 leaders in 94 nations, challenging them to be catalysts in their areas for the fulfilling of the Great Commission. For a quarter century, all our teams have returned safely. Praise the name of Jesus.

We will collect input. We want to hear from our brothers and sisters in Christ from around the world. We honor them for their courageous stand for Jesus Christ. We’re excited to hear their stories, be broadened by their perspectives, and assimilate their ideas.

We will collaborate. With news this morning of 11 Syrian Christian workers recently crucified or beheaded by wicked men, our collaboration is more vital than ever. It needs to be remembered that Jesus died for the sins of the whole world, including the heinous sins of terrorists. They are clearly in need of the gospel’s message of pardon for repentant sinners who embrace Jesus as King and Lord. New challenges require that we reassess our strategies, while being ever-faithful to our calling. And that brings us to the final reason we’re convening this week.

We will reaffirm our commission. Our Lord’s charge to us to evangelize and disciple all the nations remains, in the words of missionary great Amy Carmichael, “the great unrepealedcommission.” Whether the winds are favorable or adverse, the commission remains – Preach the gospel to all creation. Make disciples of all the nations.

To invite this large a group from so many different parts of the world is an expensive undertaking. My deep gratitude to everyone who is praying for this week and everyone who supports Global Advance financially, making events like this possible. We’re very confident that this significant investment of time, energy, and money will yield huge dividends for the cause of Jesus Christ around the world.

“Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,

Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;

Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,

Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.

“Great is Thy faithfulness, great is Thy faithfulness,

Morning by morning new mercies I see;

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided,

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.”
